Thomas Benoit was born the younger of a set of twins, his sister being born minutes before him. The Benoit family itself is old Kalosian nobility, dating back to ancient knighthood. In the modern era, they operate a reputable arms tech firm, dealing in protective gear, and other gadgets for both commercial use, and League use across the world. While his uncle, Patrice, was set to inherit the business, his father, Daniel, would instead dedicate himself to the League as a Ranger. His mother, an idol in her youth, would spend her adulthood running a talent agency, with the aim of ushering in the next generation of Coordinators and idols.[break]

As a young boy, Thomas was the stark opposite of his father. While Daniel was known as a boisterous man who let his fists did the talking, and asked questions never, Thomas was a shy boy who tended to solve problems with his head. This would cause a rift between father and son, where the boy would find himself failing to live up to his father's expectations, despite repeated attempts to make his father proud of him. Instead, his twin sister would be the apple of their father's eye, being the more physical and extroverted of the twins.[break]

In school, Thomas barely interacted with most of his peers, save one or two friends he managed to make. This, in combination with his meek nature, made him an easy target for bullies. Though his sister would often help him by fending off his bullies, this would only make the problem worse.[break]

At the age of eight, Uncle Patrice would gift him with a Poochyena as his first Pokemon. Despite his initial reluctance, the two managed to get along, to the point of becoming inseparable over the next two years. In that time, the Kalosian would learn how to care for his Pokemon.[break]

At the age of ten, Thomas would set off for his journey. But rather than staying in Kalos, he would instead visit the Kanto Region, in order to travel the Region where some of his favorite trainers in the competitive scene came from. The journey would quickly take a dark turn, with the trainer being robbed of his precious Poochyena in the Viridian Forest. Once he made it out, despite the hordes of wild Pokemon hounding him in his defenseless state, it would be his sister who bailed him out again, giving him a Pancham.[break]

Despite the urging of his uncle, Thomas would stay behind in Kanto. The trainer was determined to find his Poochyena, intent on retrieving his best friend. His search would eventually take him to Saffron City. Rumors of a man in the underground circuit would draw him to the city. After tracking down the man, who bought his Poochyena from the thief that stole it, the man would challenge Thomas to a battle. If he won, then he could have his Poochyena back.[break]

Thomas, accepting the challenge, would be forced to pit his Pancham against the Poochyena. Despite the man's vicious methods, and perhaps because his Poochyena was still reluctant to fight him, Thomas managed to come out on top. In a fit of rage, the man would have another one of his Pokemon, this one much stronger and more practiced, take out his Pancham, before killing his Poochyena right before his very eyes. The man would leave Thomas to grieve alone, walking off without a care to the boy's fate.[break]

After this incident, and after giving his Poochyena a proper burial, Thomas would return back to Kalos. Over the years, the incident would come back to haunt him, in the form of nightmares. The effect the death of his first Pokemon had on him, the feeling of helplessness as he not only allowed his Poochyena to die, but the guilt of having to attack it in its last moments, ate away at Thomas.[break]

Eventually, something changed in Thomas. A desire to never allow himself to be the victim again, to never allow himself to be so weak, surfaced. Thomas would soon start training his Pancham, trying to make the Fighting-type stronger. Thomas would also begin to condition himself, and take up martial arts training, much to his father's delight. Over time, Thomas would amass a team of Pokemon, his lineup expanding into a Houndour, an Abra, a Scyther, and a Clauncher over the course of several trips out into the Kalosian wilderness.[break]

Soon, what started off as mere training became getting into fights. The boy, who once allowed others to belittle him, who merely hunkered down and took beatings to the best of his ability, started to fight back. Words would be met with words, violence would be greeted with violence. The once timid and considerate boy would become harsh and abrasive, still isolating himself from others, but in a more aggressive manner.[break]

At the age of eighteen, Thomas would go on to study at University. Despite the time classes took in his day, Thomas would always manage to find time to train himself, and his Pokemon. During his time in university, Thomas found himself drinking more often, often finding the need to be on an alcohol buzz throughout the day, in order to function.[break]

During one of his expeditions at the age of 20, he would encounter a sickly Murkrow. The trainer would take the bird in, nursing it back to health. Eventually, the Murkrow managed to make a full recovery, deciding to stay with his savior.[break]

Rather than pursue a career that would allow him to work for the family business, like his uncle had hoped, Thomas would instead focus on a career path towards the International Police. At first, Thomas was driven by a desire to protect others from a similar fate he met at the age of ten. Despite the loathing he felt towards the majority of his coworkers, and his "pinhead" boss, the combination of the more exciting aspects of the job, and the pay for those operations, made him stay.[break][break]

Thomas would find himself moving to Castelia City, as Unova was where his superiors seemed to need him the most. In the three years he has lived in Castelia, he had met a woman, @rora , who at first merely used him as a place to crash, in exchange for cooking for him, and looking after the house. It didn't take long for Thomas to figure out she was homeless, though didn't bother to confront her on this. Over the years, Thomas and @rora bonded, becoming friends, albeit ones that constantly rib each other.[break]

Over the course of the three years, Thomas had encountered and befriended three Audino. The trio of pink healers would end up bringing out a softer side in Thomas. While he would treat his other Pokemon with respect, but treating them more like brothers in arms, the Audino would be shamelessly doted on by the Kalosian.[break][break]
